Ok, so now we get to the pointy end of the planning process. I booked the tickets months and months ago and all of a sudden its about time to finalise things, pack the paperwork and clothes and prepare for the big adventure. I have booked some of the accommodation, winging the rest. How hard can it be to find an empty room in a hotel for less than $30 per night??
Reminiscing with my aunt over easter about our trip to Vietnam in 2009 brought back lots of memories, makes me wish I was travelling with someone so I have someone to talk to about what i see and do. But the blog and facebook will have to be my companion.
I am looking forward to hanging out in Georgetown the capital of Penang off the coast of Malaysia again after 19 years away. I am staying in a funky original chinese merchant house in the centre of the old city, close to the main drag where all the best restaurants are!! $5 or less for amazing indian and chinese and malaysian dishes! Whoo hoo!
Next time i post it will be from Malaysia! Wish me well for a quick trip with a half full plane so i get two seats to myself!

2 weeks and counting...
hmm, i would like to think that my bags were packed and my visa organised. oh if that were true!!! So as long as the passport is posted tomorrow and i get it back at mum and dads before the 3rd it will be all good. I have stuff strewn across my bed and i have 3 nights left to pack everything and make sure the house is in good order before i leave it for 5 weeks. that would be ok if i wasn't so busy at work that i think i will have to stay back late every night until i go.... oh the disorganisation in my life. what was i think becoming a project manager!!
but at least i have pretty much completed my itinery of sorts. i know where i start, where i finish and have a reasonable idea of where i go, how i get there and where i stay in between. so thats comforting.
i have dug up the old business cards picked up during last visit, and found around Vnd30,000 which is a whole two dollars or less but it would buy a decent little meal on the street.
